William Hagan, Ph.D.

Retired Acting Director Department of Homeland Security’s Domestic Nuclear Detection Office

Dr. Hagan was the Acting Director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO), reporting to the Secretary of Homeland Security from December of 2009 until August of 2010. Prior to serving as Acting Director, Dr. Hagan was the DNDO’s Acting Deputy Director, and Assistant Director for the Transformational and Applied Research Directorate.

Prior to the DNDO, Dr. Hagan was a Senior Vice President at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). During a 30-year career at SAIC, his areas of emphasis included nuclear technology, telecommunications, optics, transportation, system integration, and technology assessments. Business roles included group leadership, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital investment, and business development. Dr. Hagan received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics, a Master of Science in Physics, and a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California at San Diego.

Dr. Hagan has been a member of the Board since 2012 and currently acts in the capacity of Lead Director of the Board. He brings extensive experience in the nuclear radiation detection industry and in evaluating early stage technologies. Dr. Hagan is the Chair of the Compensation Committee.
